Russian-Jewish immigrant David Cominsky has come to America and has made a place for his family in the Ghetto of New York's Lower East Side. Previously a man of learning David becomes a street peddler to feed the family. But as his two sons grow up they are pulled away from their parent's lifestyle to very different corners of New York.
